The novel coronavirus (Covid-19) epidemic has not impacted the livestock sector in Qatar as the entities concerned have continued providing effective support to the livestock owners, local Arabic daily Arrayah reported.
A number of local livestock barn owners have stressed that all the necessary types of green and dry fodder, both local and imported, are available, in addition to the uninterrupted supply of all the other essential services including water and electricity.
They said that since the initial stages of the Covid-19 outbreak in the country, they have been very keen to strictly follow the preventive and precautionary measures set forth by the authorities concerned.
They also banned any exchange of visits among the workers of different barns to avoid any potential transmission of infection.
The livestock barn owners gave special emphasis on maintaining proper hygiene practices in the barns always, using environment-friendly products. All workers were ordered to install the Ehteraz app on their smartphones and avoid going out unless it is absolutely necessary.
Rashed al-Azba said that he has assigned a dedicated employee with a vehicle to attend to the needs of the workers at his barn so they do not have to go out and mix with others. The workers were very prompt in abiding by the instructions of the entities concerned in this regard.
He also considered Ehteraz as highly instrumental and useful for the protection of the workers and all the people around them, in addition to the ongoing awareness efforts and the constant supply of personal hygiene necessities besides, sanitisers, face mask and gloves.
Salim al-Ahbabi explained that he introduced technical and electronic solutions to avoid visiting the barn while monitoring the activities remotely. He also started to use the social media and other means on the internet to market his sheep online so as to avoid visits by customers to the barn.
Rafan alYami stressed that he has been very keen since the early days of the Covid-19 outbreak to use safe and environment-friendly sanitising products on both workers and the livestock while keeping the workers informed about the latest updates in the field.
Fahd al-Marri said that he had asked workers in his barn to avoid receiving visitors in the farm and try also to avoid visiting others in order to avoid transmission of infection while maintaining the safety of all.
