The endangered hawksbill turtle hatching project continued as the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME), represented by the Department of Environmental Protection and Wildlife, released more than 2,000 baby turtles into the sea at Fuwairit beach. An official MME press statement also said 23 nests were transported to the protected site at Fuwairit beach. The project team took the necessary measurements of the young turtles, released them into the sea and took the necessary follow-up steps to ensure that they entered the sea safely. The turtle protection project, under the MME’s supervision, is funded by Qatar Petroleum and implemented by the Environmental Science Center at Qatar University in co-operation with a team from the Department of Environmental Protection and Wildlife. The project covers Ras Laffan beach, Huwaila, Al Jassasiya, Al Marawanah, Fuwairit, Al Gharia and Al Mufeer and the islands of Umm Tais and Ras Rukn.
