Indonesian ambassador Mohamed Basri Sidehabi has inaugurated the new embassy building at Onaizah Area in Doha on Sunday.
The ceremony was attended by the building owner, Mohamed Ibrahim Abdullah Obaidah Fakhroo and representatives from the Indonesian diaspora in Qatar.
The event was held in accordance with the Qatar government’s social distancing measures and directives to prevent the spread of Covid-19, such as the mandatory wearing of face masks and practising social distancing.
“Please consider the building as your second home, while you're eight hours away from your own home. Be proud for such a beautiful building,” the envoy told attendees.
He underscored the importance of the new office, located at House Plot No. 13, Street 943, Zone 66, Al Salmiya, Onaiza, as it reflects “a new spirit and good hope for a promising bilateral relations between Indonesia and Qatar.”
The embassy was previously located at New Slata Area for around 21 years since 1999 before shifting to the new building, which started operating since June 1 this year.
Sidehabi said the embassy will continue providing services to around 27,000 Indonesian expatiates in Qatar.
The new office building will showcase tourism destinations in Indonesia and its rich culture and heritage, as well as the potential of Indonesia’s economy, including trade and investment sectors, according to the envoy.
He expressed confidence that bilateral relations in various fields of co-operation between the two countries will be bright and further expand “with the new spirit and new face of Indonesia in Qatar.”
