Road traffic violations fall by 62% in April

Traffic violations decreased by 62% in April compared to March, while traffic accident cases dropped by nearly 32% to 329 in the same period, according to the Qatar Monthly Statistics bulletin issued by the Planning and Statistics Authority (PSA).
Minor injuries made up the vast majority of traffic accident cases in March at 88%, followed by severe injuries at 10%. Six deaths were also reported, comprising 2% of total traffic accident cases, the official QNA reported yesterday.
Driving licence issuance for both Qataris and non-Qataris witnessed a significant decline in April, amounting to about 97.8% on a monthly basis and 98.8% annually.
With regard to vehicle registration, the bulletin indicated that 2,535 new vehicles were registered in April, a decrease of 41% on a monthly basis and 55.6% on an annual basis.
In a press statement, the PSA stressed that significant changes occurred in some of the country’s statistical indicators in April as a result of the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on various sectors.
“Several indicators for April 2020 changed; either by going up as noted in the total electricity generated and used (the monthly change was 11.8% and 13.1%, respectively, compared to March 2020), or by going down as witnessed in the Consumer Price Index as the general household consumption decreased by 1.33%. The largest drop occurred in transportation services by 4.85%, followed by restaurants and hotels with a decrease of 2.51%, compared to March,” the PSA said.
The bulletin data also indicated that the services of the e-government portal, Hukoomi, decreased to nearly half during the month of April, with 45,002 service transactions compared to 86,431 transactions in the previous month, a change of 47.9%.
In terms of real estate, the number of sold properties decreased by 25% compared to March, while the decline was approximately 40%, when compared to April 2019. The total number of construction permits issued by municipalities reached 483 during April, a monthly decrease of 24.2%.
April this year witnessed a decrease in the total of marriage contracts and divorce cases on a monthly basis, by 46.4% and 85.2%, respectively, as the total marriage contracts reached 150 contracts, while the total number of divorces cases was 12, QNA reported.
Electricity consumption in the said month saw a monthly increase of 13.1% and an annual decrease of 0.1%, while water consumption represented a monthly decrease of 3.3% and an annual increase of 2.9%.
