The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has stated that it has completed 30% of the development of Al Khaleej Street. The project is aimed at developing B-Ring Road and Al Khaleej Street, with a total length of 10km, and enhancing their capacity from two to three lanes in each direction.
Local Arabic newspaper Arrayah, quoting a source with Ashghal, reported that the first four phases of the project will be completed during the second quarter of 2021.
The development works of Al Khaleej Street assume importance due to the heavy traffic flow. The street serves most dense residential areas and connects directly to several major important roads such as Salwa Road, B Ring Road and Unaiza Street.
Al Khaleej Street also serves many tourist and commercial destinations such as Msheireb, Al Bidda Park, Doha Corniche, Al Sadd, Bin Mahmoud and others in addition to Al Rumailah Hospital. These are in addition to the works to set up a bicycle path of 1.2km, pedestrian paths of 18.2km and two pedestrian bridges on Al Khaleej Street.
Ashghal, according to the source, has also completed 27 % of the development works on B Ring Road. The road is important as it connects a number of services facilities such as Al Rumailah Hospital, in addition to tourist destinations such as the National Museum of Qatar, Museum of Islamic Art, Souq Waqif, Al Bidda Park as well as commercial establishments. The project area covers several Doha Metro stations and the works facilitate transportation between a number of vital destinations in the centre of Doha and the rest of the country.
The Ashghal source added that measures have been adopted to limit the impact of construction works on commuters and reduce traffic jams within the project area.
