Qatar Chamber lauded the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Law issued Sunday by His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani.
According to Qatar Chamber chairman Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim al-Thani, the PPP law would enhance the contribution of the private sector in the mega projects and in the economic activity, in general.
“The law would enable the private sector to be a genuine partner to the public sector in achieving the economic development,” Sheikh Khalifa said in a statement.
He said the new law fulfils the chamber’s demand for expanding the participation of Qatari companies in the execution of governmental projects. The chamber was the first body to call for such legislation, Sheikh Khalifa said, noting that Qatar Chamber also had an important role in establishing the foundation of a draft law that organises the partnership between the two sectors.
Sheikh Khalifa said, “PPP has become a reality thanks to the directives of His Highness the Amir and his trust in the private sector.”
He also affirmed that His Highness the Amir emphasised in various occasions the role of the private sector in economic development and its contribution in Qatar’s mega projects in the future, as well as his directives for the preparation of a PPP Law.
Sheikh Khalifa also praised the government’s interest in achieving the PPP, noting that several projects have recently been launched by the Technical Committee of the Ministerial Group for Stimulating the Private Sector, which covers many sectors, such as education and food security, among others.
