Some vital infrastructure projects are expected to be completed by the third quarter of 2020, according to information available on the Public Works Authority (Ashghal)'s official website.
These include the G-Ring Road project as well as the Umm Al-Dome Street & Al-Muaither Street Upgrade project.
G-Ring Road extends over 22km, from Hamad International Airport (HIA) to the south of the Industrial Area, and includes five lanes in each direction as well as 48km of pedestrian and cycling lanes, surrounded by landscaping, according to Ashghal.
"The project is one of the key axes of Qatar's expressway network. Being a fast road that provides an uninterrupted traffic flow, it will have a significant positive impact on traffic movement in the country’s southern areas. It will also contribute to reducing pressure on existing roads in other areas, thus complementing the other axes of the expressway network," the website says.
The project facilitates access to the Industrial Area and Logistics Village and ensures access to and from Al Wakra, Al Wukair and Al Mashaf.

G-Ring Road includes eight main interchanges, which comprise 29 bridges and 18 underpasses as well as loops, to distribute traffic movement.
The Al Bahya Interchange is a two-level interchange with East Industrial Road topped by the bridge of New Industrial Area Road linking the New Industrial Area with the Logistics Village. It provides an additional option to reach the Industrial Area and Logistics Village instead of the currently available option from Salwa Road.
Next is the Bu Sella Interchange, another two-level interchange that comprises East Industrial Road and the bridge of West Industrial Road. It connects between the New Industrial Area and Logistics Village, and offers an additional option to reach the Industrial Area and Logistics Village.
The third one is Aba Seleel Interchange, which is also a two-level interchange with East Industrial Road topped by the bridge of East Industrial Street. It will enhance connection between the Orbital Highway and Industrial Area, connecting it with HIA, Hamad Port and the Abu Samra border.
The Al Hafeen Interchange is a two-level interchange with East Industrial Road topped by the bridge of Al Aziziya Street Extension, while Jary Mosbeh Interchange is yet another two-level interchange that will enhance the connection of Al Wakra and Al Wukair with the northern areas.
The Umm Beshr Interchange is a four-level interchange that includes bridges, underpasses and loops to distribute the traffic movement. It enhances the connection of Al Wakra and Al Wukair with Al Thumama and the northern areas. It also provides alternative roads to reach HIA without passing through Al Wakra Main Road.
The G-Ring Road project also includes the Al Thumama Interchange, which is a two-level interchange that enhances connection between Al Wakra, Al Wukair, F-Ring Road, Al Thumama and the Old Airport.
The Airport Interchange is a two-level interchange that enhances the connection of Al Wakra and Al Wukair with HIA, F-Ring Road and Airport Street with E-Ring Road and the northern areas.
Parts of G-Ring Road were earlier opened, providing better connectivity in a number of areas
Meanwhile, ?the Umm Al-Dome Street & Al-Muaither Street Upgrade project aims to enhance traffic movement in the Muaither area and decrease daily congestion on Umm Al-Dome and Al-Muaither streets, which are among the most popular and crowded commercial streets in the country as they house a large number of shops and service centres that receive visitors from all areas, according to Ashghal. They also lead to a number of neighbourhoods on both sides.
?The project includes developing Umm Al-Dome & Al-Muaither streets to include two lanes in one direction, instead of 1 lane in each direction with no separation; constructing and developing three signal-controlled intersections; converting Bin Arhama Roundabout into an intersection; carrying out some development works on Al-Innabi and Muaither North streets; increasing traffic safety on Umm Al-Dome and Al-Muaither streets (street lighting, pavement, road signs and pedestrian crossings); providing 1,084 car parking bays and cycle racks in 21 locations; landscaping in some areas; and upgrading the stormwater drainage system and drainage network, as well as constructing a new TSE network.
