The Ministry of Municipality and Environment affirmed that the biological diversity that the world celebrates on May 22 every year is one of the important occasions that aims to educate the public on the importance of their role in preserving the nature of biological diversity, and protecting it from human encroachment.
The ministry stated that these goals can be achieved through following the best sound practices in food, health and ecological systems, which also represent solutions for sustainable development, in addition to preserving natural resources for future generations, noting that the protection of biological diversity reflects on the health of people.
This came in the ministry's statement as Qatar joins the world marking the International Day for Biological Diversity, under the theme "Our Solutions In Nature".
The ministry added: "Marking this day comes on the backdrop of the Covid-19 pandemic spread in all countries of the world.
From this standpoint, our preservation of biological diversity helps us in facing and combating pandemics and diseases caused by different viruses that threaten the public health of all."
In a related context, the ministry indicated that it had relied, through the second national strategy, on developing operational action plans for projects to enhance biodiversity in the country, confirming the provision of its human and material capabilities as well as its accumulated experiences for preserving nature in partnership with other bodies in the country, in addition to providing water and food for all living things in nature, in line with the requirements and obligations of the Convention on Biological Diversity, signed on May 22, 1992.
The Ministry of Municipality and Environment also works to monitor all the areas in the natural areas in terms of their biological diversity and spread in the state, update its database and build its human and material capabilities.
It said that Qatar was among the leading countries in achieving the motto "Our Solutions In Nature" by attaching great importance to the protection and preservation of biological diversity,, as well as maintaining the ability to adapt to environmental disorders such as climate change.
In this regard, the ministry stated that it has implemented various action plans, initiatives and projects aimed at preserving biological diversity, in addition to implementing and drafting national legislation, such Law No.(10) of 2019 on regulating the acquisition of dangerous animals in Qatar, which strengthens national measures to address the environmental impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.
