Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU), a member of Qatar Foundation, has successfully concluded classes for the 2019-2020 academic year, with nearly 200 students in the Class of 2020 completing their final weeks through virtual education platforms.
To comply with social distancing to help contain the spread of Covid-19, and in alignment with Qatar Foundation’s directives, HBKU has postponed the graduation ceremony, originally scheduled to take place on May 3. The university will announce a new date for the graduation ceremony as soon as containment measures are lifted.

HBKU president Dr Ahmad M Hasnah

Dr Ahmad M Hasnah, president of HBKU, said, “HBKU is committed to nurturing innovative and creative thinkers to become a driving force for meaningful change in their respective fields and advance the development of a diverse and sustainable economy. I congratulate the Class of 2020 for their tremendous achievements and tenacity to complete their education despite the unique challenges of the Covid-19 containment measures. While we look forward to your graduation ceremony in due course, the current circumstances do not diminish the hard work you've put in to achieve this success.”
HBKU’s vice president of student affairs, the deans of the six colleges, and members of HBKU senior management delivered congratulatory video messages to recognise the outstanding achievements of the graduating students.
Addressing the students, Dr Emad El-Din Shahin, interim provost and dean of the College of Islamic Studies, said: “Congratulations. This is a great milestone in your life. You have persisted through hours of hard work, studying, and endless assignments. We are all very proud of you and wish you a very bright career ahead. You have accomplished a lot despite what you have gone through lately.”
Maryam al-Mannai, vice president for student affairs at HBKU, said, “It’s been a long journey, and even though the last few months have been challenging, you have persevered and accomplished your goals. I would like to take this opportunity to share this advice with you: remember the past, live in the present and look forward to the future. HBKU is proud to have been your home of knowledge for the past few years.”
HBKU nurtures high-calibre graduates who are equipped with theoretical knowledge and practical experience afforded by the university’s multidisciplinary approach to education and learning.
