The Crescent Sighting Committee at the Ministry of Awqaf (Endowments) and Islamic Affairs has called upon all Muslims in Qatar to sight the crescent moon of Shawwal on Friday evening, the 29th Ramadan 1441 AH, corresponding to May 22, 2020.
In a statement yesterday, the committee asked the witnesses to report their testimony to the committee’s headquarters at the ministry’s building in Al Dafna. The committee will meet soon after the Maghrib prayer, QNA reported.
Meanwhile, Qatar Calendar House (QCH) yesterday said based on astronomical calculations, Saturday (May 23) will be the final day of Ramadan with Eid beginning on Sunday (May 24), QNA added.
Some unverified social media outlets reported about QCH announcing Saturday as the first day of Eid al-Fitr. QCH dismissed those reports and stressed that the authority for sighting the Shawwal crescent belongs to the Crescent Sighting Committee at the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs in Qatar.
