Serbian ambassador Jasminko Pozderac has expressed great appreciation for the initiative of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani to send medical assistance to Serbia to help it in its efforts to combat the Covid-19 spread.
Pozderac stressed that the two countries already enjoy excellent and friendly relationships and this new gesture would further enhance such ties as both the government and people of Serbia welcome and appreciate such a decision.
He said good friends always help each other in critical times, and Serbia and Qatar have had good political relations and there is even greater potential for co-operation in various fields, including business and investment, culture, sports and education, for the good of the peoples of the two countries.
The ambassador noted that the Covid-19 situation is stabilising in his country and the assistance of friends would further enhance the efforts of the government to contain the virus. Some 10 days ago, Serbia cancelled the state of emergency and curfew that were in place to combat any potential spread of the virus among the people, and the government is trying to bring life back to normal as much as possible.
However, precautionary and preventive measures would still be adopted to ensure the protection of the people, which requires further efforts by the authorities concerned.
“Qatar and Serbia have been good friends and they will remain so for a better future for both of them. I am really very grateful for the timely initiative of His Highness the Amir for the assistance to my people and country,” he said.
