People should reduce their dependency on social media for news related to the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) as many posts do not reflect the facts, Dr Khalid al-Muhannadi, consultant psychologist at the Behavioural Health Care Center, told Qatar TV Friday.
"People should try to avoid anxiety and stress during the Covid-19 pandemic. They should only take their information from official and authentic sources and that too not frequently.
"Rather, they should divert their attention to more positive things such as that they are living in a country that deals with transparency in this regard and takes all the due care and measures to address the situation accordingly.
"Parents in particular should be role models for their children and avoid unreasonable worries and obsessions that could magnify small things such as a simple sore throat and thinking that it could be a serious illness just out of their fear.
"They should maintain open channels of conversation with their children and explain to them whatever they want to know in a simple and relaxed way. People should relax, and avoid anxiety and unjustifiable fears.
"In case, anyone needs medication for some psychiatric troubles they should contact the department concerned through the hotline."
