A total of 12,125 people have benefited from the 'Cash for Work' programme for the employment of graduates and workers in the Gaza Strip, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) has said.
This has been highlighted by an infographic issued by the ministry on social media on Thursday.
The initiative, involving Qatar's Gaza Reconstruction Committee and the United Nations, has seen a grant of $20mn from Qatar. It is implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).
In all, 6,360 graduates and 5,765 workers have benefited from the project between March 2019 and March 2020, according to the infographic.
Of the total beneficiaries, UNRWA accounts for 8,403 beneficiaries and UNDP 3,722 people.
Also, 71% - or 8,635 - of the beneficiaries are male while 29% - or 3,490 - are female.
In terms of sectors, education leads with 3,511 beneficiaries, followed by health with 3,061, environmental health/municipalities with 2,238, social development affairs with 1,450, economic/agriculture/private sector with 1,301, housing with 499 and press/media with 65.
Region-wise, Gaza has 4,151 beneficiaries (2,535 graduates and 1,616 workers), Middle Area has 2,283 (1,306 workers and 977 graduates), Khan Younis has 2,141 (1,129 graduates and 1,012 workers), North Gaza has 1,990 (999 graduates and 991 workers) and Rafah has 1,560 beneficiaries (840 workers and 720 graduates).
