Residents of the Industrial Area, as well as employers and workers engaged in various businesses located there, have welcomed the government’s move to reopen the closed part of the area with reorganised exit and entry procedures.
While there are still restrictions in place and the area is not accessible to all due to the new procedures, the people there feel the regulations will ensure public safety and is for the good of all.
The closed part of the Industrial Area, right up to Street 32, was reopened yesterday and there were signs of normality slowly returning to the sprawling area. Streets 1 and 2 and Al Wakalat Street were reopened earlier and business resumed operations there.
The new procedures allow the following groups to enter and exit the area: employers and employees who work there but live outside, and people who live in the area but work outside.
In addition, companies operating in the area will be allowed to transport materials and equipment by submitting, in advance, an application to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry and the Ministry of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs.
Employers are required to ensure that all workers download the Ehteraz mobile app, which is mandatory for exit from and entry to the Industrial Area. Inspections will be intensified to make sure that all laws and procedures are implemented, such as providing adequate accommodation, reduction in the number of workers transported by bus to half the capacity of a vehicle, providing sanitisers and masks, and that all workers are using them properly in line with the instructions of the Ministry of Public Health.
