The Ministry of Culture and Sports is all set to celebrate Garangao night Thursday while ensuring that all necessary Covid-19 precautionary and preventive measures are followed.
With the participation of different sports clubs, the ministry will use a convoy of buses that will visit different places to distribute properly sanitised and sealed Garangao bags full of sweets and nuts among children.
Taking place after Iftar, the celebration will see the buses start from 10 sports clubs: Al Rayyan, Al Sadd, Qatar Sports Club, Al Khor, Al Shamal, Al Arabi, Al Gharafa, Umm Salal, Al Ahli and Al Wakrah, along with the participation of a Theatre Affairs Centre bus, which will start from the Qatar National Theatre.
The buses will be fitted with loudspeakers, through which joyful Garangao songs will be played in order to highlight the local heritage and introduce children to the traditions of their ancestors - all in a festive mood.
Aisha al-Mahmoud, director of Public Relations and Communications at the ministry, stressed that the initiative comes within the framework of the ministry’s keenness to keep the popular heritage alive through activities that comply with the measures undertaken in the prevailing circumstances.
Kids will receive the goody bags at their doorsteps, and the organisers will ensure that the recommended social and physical distancing and all other relevant health and safety measures are followed.
