The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) Monday announced 640 new confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus (Covid-19), and 146 recovered from the disease in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of recovered cases Qatar to 1,810.
The MoPH said in a statement that most of the new cases are migrant workers who have been infected with the virus as a result of contact with individuals who were previously diagnosed through the investigative testing carried out by the Ministry.
The rest of the new Covid-19 cases have come from citizens and residents who contracted the virus from members of their families, who in turn got infected through their workplaces or other places where they were exposed to infected people.
All the new infected cases have been quarantined where they are receiving the necessary medical care.
The MoPH stated that during the current period it expects to see a fluctuation in the number of cases of infection. This is for several reasons including that the outbreak of the virus is considered to be at the peak stage before the numbers of infections start to descend gradually.
The Ministry has also recently stepped up efforts to track the transitional chains of the virus and expand the search for people infected by conducting extensive and proactive investigations of large numbers of contacts with people who have recently been confirmed with the disease.
The number of daily tests performed depends on the number of contacts individuals confirmed to be infected with the virus have had, as well as the random tests that are taking place in different parts of the country.
According to a tweet from the MoPH, with a total of 2,360 people tested for Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, as many as 106,795 have been tested so far in Qatar.
There are 16,191 positive cases to date in Qatar and 14,369 currently undergoing treatment. The total number of Covid-19 deaths so far in Qatar is 12, according to the tweet.
The MoPH called on all members of society to stay at home and not go out except in cases of necessity and to implement preventive measures and maintain physical distancing, including in the workplace and public places. The Ministry reminded people to use a face mask as recommended and avoid social visits to reduce their risk of contracting the virus.
The Ministry also urged the public to regularly visit its website to view the latest information and instructions related to Covid-19.
