New York governor Andrew Cuomo has thanked Qatar for helping send critical supplies and for the donation of aid.
"Thank you to the government and people of Qatar from the people of New York. We are grateful for your assistance in helping send critical supplies and for the donation of aid," he said in a tweet.
Qatar's efforts to combat the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) crisis has not stopped it from lending a helping hand to other countries, it was highlighted recently.
Qatar has sent medical aid and supplies to countries like China, Iran, Italy, Lebanon, Tunisia, Algeria, Rwanda and Nepal.
This comes in addition to providing financial support to the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip to combat Covid-19, while organisations such as Qatar Red Crescent Society and Qatar Charity are continuing to contribute to the efforts of fighting the virus in many countries.
The national carrier, Qatar Airways, has also been lauded for helping stranded people around the world reach home.
As reported last month, the airline has carried in excess of 1mn passengers, operating a mix of scheduled and charter services plus extra sectors.
Qatar Airways has also transported a huge quantity of medical equipment and aid relief.
Through these efforts, the national carrier is ensuring it is a reliable partner for passengers, governments, travel trade and freight companies in extremely challenging circumstances.
Recently, the US appreciated "Qatar Airways' continued assistance in transporting US citizens home from Qatar and other destinations around the world".
US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo, in a letter to HE the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani, had acknowledged Qatar national carrier's sterling role in this regard.
Qatar Airways tweeted a copy of the letter in which Pompeo said: "On behalf of the United States government and the American people, I want to express our appreciation for Qatar Airways' continued assistance in transporting US citizens home from Qatar and other destinations around the world.
"We have heard from numerous US citizens abroad about the tremendous efforts extended by Qatar Airways staff to get them home."
