The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) Sunday announced 679 new confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus (Covid-19), with 130 people having recovered from the disease in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of cases of recovery in Qatar to 1,664.
The MoPH said in a statement that most of the new cases are migrant workers from different regions and infected with the virus as a result of contact with individuals who were previously diagnosed through the investigative testing carried out by the Ministry.
The other new cases are citizens and residents who have contracted the virus from family members, who in turn were infected from their workplaces or other places.
The MoPH said that all the new infected cases have been quarantined where they are receiving the necessary medical care.
The MoPH stated that it expects to see a fluctuation in the number of cases of infection during the current period due to several reasons, including that the outbreak of the virus is considered at the peak stage before the numbers of infections begin to decline gradually.
The MoPH has recently stepped up efforts to track the transitional chains of the virus and expand the search for infected people by conducting extensive and proactive investigations of large numbers of contacts with people who have recently been confirmed with the disease.
The MoPH stated that the number of daily tests it conducts on people depends primarily on the number of contacts with individuals confirmed to be infected with the virus.
The MoPH is also conducting random tests in different places of the country as a proactive measure, pointing out that the number of tests performed daily is not linked to the number of confirmed cases in terms of increase or decrease.
According to a tweet from the MoPH, with a total of 2,707 people tested for Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, as many as 104,435 have been tested so far in Qatar.
There are 15,551 positive cases to date in Qatar and 13,875 currently undergoing treatment. The total number of Covid-19 deaths so far in Qatar is 12, according to the tweet.
The MoPH called on all members of society to stay at home and not go out except in cases of necessity and take care to implement preventive measures and maintain physical distancing, including in the workplace and public places. The Ministry reminds people to use a face mask and avoid social visits to reduce their risk of contracting the virus.
The MoPH also urged the public to visit its website regularly to view the latest information and instructions related to Covid-19.
