The Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME), represented by the Department of Environmental Protection and Wildlife, has affirmed that the endangered Hawksbill turtle conservation project is continuing well, with all precautions being taken to guarantee the safety of the project team members.
The initiative, which began in 2003, is considered one of the ministry's most important projects and programmes in the field of preserving the marine environment within the context of Qatar's efforts to conserve endangered species.

The MME noted that the field work witnessed, over the past weeks, an acceleration in nesting operations as well as the achievement of record numbers compared to previous years.
Some 48 nests were transferred to the protected site on Fuwairit beach while taking the necessary measurements for turtles, cleaning them and treating cases of fatigue and wounds and returning them to the sea.
Two turtles were returned to the sea after being treated.
The turtle protection project is carried out under the supervision of the MME, funded by Qatar Petroleum (QP) and implemented by the Environmental Science Centre of Qatar University in co-operation with a team from the Department of Environmental Protection and Wildlife.
Beaches in the northeastern part of the country are covered in this, including Ras Laffan beach, Hawilah, Al Jassassiya, Marwah, Fuwairit, Al Ghariya and Al Mafeer, as well as the islands of Umm Tais and Ras Rukn.
