President of Guyana: Constructive and serious talks with Amir open greater prospects for distinguished relations

Guyanese President Dr Mohamed Irfaan Ali has stressed that his talks with His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani were constructive and serious and would open greater prospects for the distinguished relations between the two countries.In an interview with Qatar News Agency (QNA), Dr Ali underscored that his visit to Qatar was successful, adding that the next stage will consequently witness numerous joint actions, expressing his aspiration to boost bilateral ties at the public and private levels.He noted the influential and wonderful role undertaken by Qatar at the regional and international levels making it a crucial player at the level of various global issues.He described the relations between his country and Qatar as solid and are based on the joint commitment towards the human benefit in general to create a stable and peaceful environment for the peoples of the two countries, to encourage the implementation of investments that would promote the welfare of the two friendly peoples, to provide business, trade community and private sector, and to construct a critical infrastructure and a solid and flexible economy.He added that the talks he held in Qatar were successful and his meetings with several officials in the country addressed topics related to investment opportunities in Guyana and the role of partnership with the Qatari private sector in advancing it, expressing his hope that all these meetings would enhance the available opportunities between the two countries and consider the available potential in Guyana including the joint interest of the two countries and their friendly peoples.The president welcomed the Qatari businessmen to invest in his country specially that Qatar has expertise, knowledge, sophistication and technology for quality leadership and a scope of investments that Guyana needs in multiple fields such as climate services, energy, production of foodstuff, agriculture, general infrastructure, and eco-tourism.He outlined that Guyana has a very open investment policy which is free of discrimination along with a stable and more safer investment environment, and it currently focuses on building a competitive, sustainable and flexible economy.He lauded the great development and comprehensive renaissance Qatar enjoys under the wise leadership of His Highness the Amir, considering it as success story which included laying out the policies and correct programmes that earned Qatar such an image and global good reputation.Dr Ali commended the successful Qatari polices pertaining to the diversification of economy, the expansion the financial system, and supporting the mechanisms to lead development and progress at the national level, adding that Guyana is embarking on the same journey that was started by Qatar long time ago.During this journey, Guyana seeks to emulate the best practices and good examples to adapt oil and gas revenues and translate them into the progress of the entire country, not in terms of material way, but also in the way of transferring and advancing the human element, which is a critical asset of the state to increase productivity, enhance competitiveness and build resilience, he added.He said the progress made by Qatar has multiple aspects, not only in oil and gas sectors, but in considering the conceptional approach and the forward-looking vision Qatar has adopted positioning it at the best place concerning the crises the world is facing today, whether with respect to food crisis, inflation or production.President Dr Ali said that Qatar under the directives of its wise leadership has taken a wise and visionary path, not only by ensuring its national daily foodstuff security, but also by setting policies that enable it to sufficiently compete in world markets.He stressed that Qatar's strategy and success in all of these areas stemming from a clear approach and a targeted vision has many dimensions that go beyond just physical infrastructure.He added that Qatar has a carefully crafted strategy and vision regarding its role in the international community as it created for itself a role of being a contributor to matters relating to flexibility, sustainability, and climate change, an example of which would be the Doha Programme of Action of the 5th UN Conference on the Least Developed Countries held in Doha recently.It was not just a conference for discussions or making political commitments; instead it served as a strong commitment by Doha towards these issues and yielded a feasible action plan that is sustained by funding.He noted that Qatar follows a holistic approach to sustainable national development based on a comprehensive development strategy of economic diversification and expansion.Dr Ali noted Qatar's important and vital role in conflict mediation and reconciliation on the world stage, welcoming any policy that seeks to bring about peace, reconciliation, harmony, freedom, progress, and human prosperity, as is the case with Qatar's.The president praised Qatar's development assistance abroad and its contribution and support for developing and least developed countries, especially those most vulnerable, describing it as a wonderful role and an appreciated contribution.Hes mentioned that his country benefited from Qatar's assistance during the Covid-19 pandemic, adding that Qatar demonstrated to the world how a small country can play a significant role globally pointing to Qatar's wonderful and successful hosting of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, opening up horizons for small countries like Guyana to achieve such feats.
