The Health and Safety Team at the Public Works Authority (Ashghal)’s Roads Projects Department and a Labour Inspection Department team from the Ministry of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs (MADLSA) have visited workers' accommodation facilities in the Industrial Area and Abu Nakhla.

This came as part of the inspection campaigns being carried out with the aim of protecting workers engaged in Ashghal projects from Covid-19, the authority has said in a tweet.

Mohamed al-Tamimi from the Roads Projects Department said the visits were conducted to ensure that contractors implemented the precautionary measures related to cleaning and disinfecting all facilities as well as isolation, monitoring and follow-up procedures.

Ashghal, in co-ordination with the MADLSA, has launched inspection campaigns at workplaces and labour accommodations to ensure the compliance of contracting companies with the preventive measures taken by the authority based on directives from the ministry.

Ashghal is ensuring that the project implementing companies are aware of the seriousness of the issue and also make their workers aware of all preventive measures and procedures to prevent the virus from spreading, while also ensuring that the workflow is not affected.

These measures include regular and proper washing of hands, making sterilisation dispensers available, strict compliance with the law preventing gatherings and maintaining social distance.
