Qatar Islamic Bank (QIB) has organised a blood donation campaign, in association with Hamad Medical Corporation’s (HMC) Blood Donor Center, as part of efforts led by Qatar’s healthcare authorities to secure the country’s blood supply.
The campaign comes as part of QIB’s commitment to support the efforts led by the country in its fight against the spread of the novel coronavirus (which causes the Covid-19 respiratory disease).
QIB urged all their employees to visit HMC’s Blood Center to donate and enrich the blood bank’s supply, to ensure that Qatar does not face any shortages in the near future.
Commenting on the initiative, QIB Group chief executive Bassel Gamal said: “At QIB, we have always made it a priority to commit to initiatives that benefit society in Qatar, such as blood donations.
“We create campaigns, whether internally amongst our employees, or externally for the wider community, to engage and encourage individuals to take the necessary steps that will enhance the overall well-being of our people.”
He added: “As the country fights the spread of Covid-19, healthcare authorities have requested that citizens and residents donate blood to help the cause.
“We wanted to find a way to contribute, and therefore raised awareness of the need amongst our employees.”
“We are very proud of their generous response. Donating blood is a simple, noble act that plays a big role in saving lives,” he said.
The campaign showcases the bank’s continued commitment to engage with the community and strengthen its involvement in initiatives that benefit society in Qatar.
HMC’s Blood Donor Center is in urgent need of donations of blood types O+, O-, A-, B-, and AB-.
The blood donation centre is located close to Hamad General Hospital.
