A total of 111 people have died of Covid-19 in India, with 32 fatalities and 693 fresh cases in the past 24 hours alone, government data released yesterday showed.
The figures released by the Health Ministry take the number of positive cases in India past the 4,000-mark to 4,281.
India has registered an increase of 500-plus cases in the four days since Friday.
Maharashtra remained the worst-hit state with a total number of positive cases rising to 748, followed by Tami Nadu (571) and Delhi (523).
At least 314 people are affected in Kerala, 305 in Uttar Pradesh, while Rajasthan reported 274 cases, Telengana 321 cases, and Andhra Pradesh 226.
Madhya Pradesh has reported 165 cases, Jammu and Kashmir 109, Punjab 76 cases, West Bengal 80, Gujarat 144, Haryana 84 cases, Bihar 32, Chandigarh 18, Assam 26and  Ladakh 14.
In Andaman and Nicobar Islands, there are at least 10 cases, Uttarakhand has 26 cases, Arunachal Pradesh has 1, Goa 7, Chhattisgarh 10, Himachal Pradesh 13, Jharkhand 4, Manipur 2, Odisha 21 and Puducherry 5.
The most number of fatalities are from Maharashtra - 45.
Health Ministry officials said more than 1,000 cases were connected to a religious gathering organised by Tablighi Jamaat in New Delhi last month.
Senior ministry official Lav Agarwal said the number of Covid-19 cases in India was doubling every 4.1 days and that rate could have been slower at 7.1 days had the Delhi event –  attended by thousands from India and abroad –  not taken place.
