The Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) has launched a new telephone consultation service as part of efforts to limit the spread of the novel coronavirus disease (Covid-19).

This service will ensure that the PHCC can effectively provide continuity of care for patients and mitigate any potential risks associated with cancelling appointments.

"This measure comes in line with both the State's and PHCC’s commitment to work collectively action against the spread of the global Covid-19 outbreak," the PHCC tweeted on Thursday.

"PHCC confirms that all precautionary and preventive measures are taken in the interest of the public health of all citizens and residents of the State of Qatar, and therefore, it calls upon all to ensure that these measures are efficiently implemented."

"Pregnant women, cancer patients, people with NCDs (non-communicable diseases) and elderly patients are our priority," it explained.

The telephone consultation service will be delivered by clinicians with the support of nurses, health educators, dieticians, pharmacists and receptionists. The service will be provided to patients with appointments that were scheduled prior to the Covid-19 situation.

An SMS will be sent to all patients with booked appointments 24 hours in advance, advising that a telephone consultation will take place.

"As well as ensuring continuity of care to our clients, this new service aims at utilising health centre (HC) resources efficiently and minimising HC visits during the Covid-19 outbreak," it added.
