The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI) has issued a circular, setting with immediate effect the maximum prices for hand sanitisers, wipes and disinfectants in Qatar.
The decision No. (1) of 2020 was taken by the Committee that Sets Maximum Prices and Profit Ratios , in line with the implementation of preventive measures established by Qatar to limit the spread of the novel coronavirus disease (Covid-19), combat the unjustified rise in the prices of sanitation products and disinfectants, deter monopolistic practices and commercial fraud, and ensure the consumer’s right to obtain these products at affordable prices.
The MoCI has issued a full list (https://www.moci.gov.qa/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/prices_list.pdf) which includes all brands and types of hand sanitisers, wipes and disinfectants alongside their description and quantity with the maximum permitted price for each.
The ministry stressed that all pharmacies, and shops selling these products are not permitted to exceed the stipulated prices. In case of not abiding by the listed prices, a violation report will be issued to the outlet(s) and all necessary legal procedures taken.
The ministry will also intensify its inspection campaigns to ensure the compliance of suppliers and merchants in this regard.
The demand for different products and forms of hand sanitisers and disinfectants has surged across the world in view of the Covid-19 outbreak.
