Qatar University’s (QU) Al-Bairaq programme was honoured at the closing ceremony of QSTEAM Competition 2020 organised by The Ministry of Education and Higher Education.
Al-Bairaq programme was chosen on account of its vast experience in organising and co-ordinating workshops and scientific activities based on the STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math and the Arts) approach in education, in addition to its experience in judging national and international competitions.
During the ceremony, Al-Bairaq was honoured with a trophy of appreciation. Al-Bairaq programme has composed and conducted scientific training workshops for 140 students from 35 different schools, comprising 17 preparatory and 18 primary. 
The workshops provided the students with the basics of engineering design process for STEAM projects and professional ways to implement them, in addition to enhancement of the student’s personal skills. 
Al-Bairaq also had an active role in assisting the students during implementation of their projects. Equipment and laboratories of QU were provided for the students under the supervision of specialised professors, expert engineers, and technicians. Also Al-Bairaq judged the students projects and their presentations, which reflected their efforts and the skills gained during the competition.
The winners of the primary and preparatory stages were announced at the finale. The first place winner from preparatory stage was Qatar for Science and Technology School for boys, which was offered a training workshop by Al-Bairaq programme. Al-Bairaq also supervised the implementation of several projects, including Barzan Preparatory School for Girls project, which won the fifth place for the preparatory stage.
During the ceremony, Moza Almodahka, president of the Educational Guidance Department at The Ministry of Education said, “I thank Al-Bairaq and other partners for their obvious impact through which we discovered the unique skills of students, as students are highly affected by their mentors and teachers”
Dr Nora Jabr al-Thani, president of Al Bairaq Programme and head of Communication and Outreach at QU stated, “Our participation in this competition came from our plan and vision in supporting creative thinking and innovation for students of Qatar and advancing their educational level to complete the educational framework to achieve the Qatar 2030 vision”. 
She added, “We are glad to be part of this outstanding event in which the achievements of the students were honoured. We also congratulate all the winners and wish them more progress and scientific excellence that serves Qatar to reach the highest levels of innovation in the world”.
