Talabat, the region’s leading food delivery platform, has announced that it is rolling out contactless delivery for anyone placing and paying for orders online.

This initiative has been developed for rider and customer safety, the company has said in a statement.

To enable this facility automatically, the customer will need to choose an online payment option.

The company has explained how the contactless delivery system works: after the rider arrives, he will ring the doorbell and place the order by the door for the convenience of customers. "Our rider will practise social distancing while making sure you get your order, before departing for the next delivery," the statement notes.

Tomaso Rodriguez, CEO of Talabat, believes that these measures continue to show Talabat’s "emphasis on safety amid the ongoing Covid-19 outbreak", adding that customers need to make an online payment for the system to work.

"At Talabat, safety is our top priority at all times, especially during the ongoing Covid-19 outbreak. We implore you, as a customer, to make an online payment (debit, credit or Talabat credit). This means no physical cash will have to exchange hands, thereby making contactless delivery possible," he said. "By making delivery contactless for our customers and riders, we are putting health first."

In addition to this initiative, Talabat will also distribute door hangers that customers can leave to indicate that a contactless drop-off is required.

Consumers can download the Talabat app for Android from Google Play or IoS from the Apple App Store.
