The Qatari Authors’ Forum held a session on Sunday to celebrate International Women’s Day under the title “Women Leaders Make History “.
A group of female writers participated in the forum.
During the session held on Sunday night, a group of female writers spoke about their path to success, the difficulties they faced, and how they managed to overcome them through perseverance and persistence.
Author Dr Hessa al-Awadi talked about her early days during her writing career, which began at an early age.
She spoke about the difficulties and challenges she faced, especially the traditions of a conservative society which prevented women from travelling alone and enter some vocations, especially the field of journalism.
Journalism was restricted to men and was prohibited for women, especially Qatari women.
But with her insistence and adherence to her ambition, she managed to change prevailing ideas, until she finally reached her goal of publishing a number of stories for children.
A writer and director of Doha International Centre for Special Needs, Dr Hala al-Saeed, who is also a member of Gulf Disability Society and a former member of Unesco, said that the Qatari woman is able to prove herself in the labour market and in all fields.
She was active and influential in society especially during the blockade period.
Young Qatari writer Intissar al-Seif talked about her experience and ambition.
Society still imposes some restrictions on women, but with the support of her family, she managed to overcome many of them and achieve her ambition, whether in study or writing, she said, adding that women should not give up in the face of obstacles.
The Qatari Authors’ Forum continues its cultural activities as a cultural body affiliated with the Ministry of Culture and Sports.
