Schools out: Measures undertaken to limit virus spread

Qatar University announced a host measures following the statement issued by the Government Communications Office to suspend classes in public and private schools and universities

The global coronavirus outbreak has led to a series of measures undertaken to control and limit its spread in Qatar. The coronavirus causes the Covid-19.
Among the measures taken at academic institutions are:

Qatar University

Qatar University (QU) Monday announced a host measures following the statement issued by the Government Communications Office to suspend classes in public and private schools and universities for all students in Qatar from Tuesday until further notice.
The educational process will continue with the help of virtual and distance learning platforms and the university will communicate with the students via e-mail and blackboard to provide them with details, QU said in a tweet. "All university staff and faculty members should continue work as usual."
Meanwhile, all overseas student participation is suspended until further notice, QU informed, adding that all university events are postponed until further notice.
"We recommend that all students and employees adhere to the preventive measures and to follow the health instructions and guidelines to reduce the spread of the coronavirus," QU added.

Qatar Foundation

All events for the next six weeks, starting Monday, at Qatar Foundation (QF) have been cancelled with immediate effect, QF tweeted Monday.
Following the Qatar government's directive issued Monday in view of the novel coronavirus outbreak, QF also confirmed that classes are suspended at all Qatar Foundation schools, partner universities and Hamad Bin Khalifa University until further notice.
"QF is continually monitoring the evolving worldwide coronavirus," it added.

Hamad Bin Khalifa University

Due to the current situation regarding Covid-19 and following the Ministry of Education and Higher Education circular in this regard, Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) said it will be suspending classes from Tuesday until further notice.
"HBKU wishes to emphasise its commitment to maintaining educational continuity, through the use of our online learning platform, allowing our students to continue their studies without disruption," HBKU tweeted Monday.

Northwestern University in Qatar

Based on the Qatar government’s decision to suspend all private and government schools and universities until further notice, beginning Tuesday, Northwestern University in Qatar (NU-Q) has said classes will continue online.
Students should not report to campus beginning Tuesday, NU-Q tweeted.
Faculty and staff are expected to report as usual.
Additionally, all scheduled events will be cancelled until further notice, according to information available on the NU-Q website.

Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar

Qatar is suspending schools and universities for all students in order to limit the spread of the coronavirus.
During this time, Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar (CMU-Q) will continue to teach remotely and the university will remain open for faculty and staff, CMU-Q tweeted Monday.

Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar

Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar (WCM-Q) said it is suspending all in-person classes as of Tuesday.
"Until further notice, in order to continue with the educational programmes, we will leverage technology-based solutions to deliver the curriculum," WCM-Q said on its website.

Georgetown University in Qatar

Effective Tuesday, all on-campus classes will be transitioned to online classes, Georgetown University in Qatar (GU-Q) has said.
"Students will not be allowed into the GU-Q building and instead should continue classes remotely," GU-Q said on its website, adding that all events are also cancelled until further notice.

Texas A&M University at Qatar

Effective Tuesday, classes at Texas A&M University at Qatar (Tamuq) will move online until further notice.
"Students should check with their professors for instructions on how to attend class and complete assignments electronically," Tamuq tweeted Monday.

Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts in Qatar

As a result of the Qatar government’s decision to close all schools and universities as a preventative measure against the spread of the coronavirus, Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts in Qatar (VCUarts Qatar) will suspend on-campus instruction and move to a remote model of operation.
"This technology-based solution will ensure that students will be able to continue their studies as planned.
Students should not report to the campus until further notice," VCUarts said on its website.
