The Ministry of Interior (MoI) said on Thursday that domestic workers from the Philippines will be recruited through the Qatar Visa Centre in Manila from March 15.

The announcement was made at a conference organised by the Ministry on Thursday.

The conference was attended by representatives of the Visa Support Services Department and owners and representatives of recruitment agencies operating in the country.

Director of Visa Support Services Department Major Abdullah Khalifa al-Mohannadi said during the recruitment, which will be activated through the Qatar Visa Centre in Manila on March 15, will cover all domestic workers.

The move will contribute to the finalisation of recruitment procedures in an easy and accurate way through the verification of employment contracts and their documentation by the Ministry of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs before the workers leave their country, in addition to the procedures for medical examination and collection of vital data, he said.

Al-Mohannadi added that a number of new services will be activated, which will provide more facilities that will serve all recruitment agencies through the existing co-operation between the Ministry of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs with its counterpart in the Philippines.

He said the procedures at the visa centres will be as brief as possible, in addition to some other procedures that reduce time and effort.

Al-Mohannadi gave a presentation of the procedures that are being implemented at the visa centre in Manila, the recruitment mechanism, and the steps for authorising recruitment agencies, in addition to the contact points which would provide the necessary information.

He said after the completion of the procedures of the Philippine Department of Labour and Employment, an appointment will be given to the applicant to visit the visa centre with the required documents, which include the passport, appointment letter, educational qualifications if necessary, and the Philippine Department of Labour certificate.

Al-Mohannadi said that the applicant can authorise the recruitment office to carry out his transactions through Metrash 2 or through the electronic services of the Ministry of Interior, or any of the ministry's service sites.

Qatar inaugurated the visa centre in the Philippine capital last September, 2019, within the framework of the project Qatar Visa Centres Abroad, which was launched in 2018 and targets a number of labour-exporting countries to Qatar.
