The General Authority of Customs (GAC) played a vital role in the success of the 17th Doha Jewellery & Watches Exhibition (DJWE), which concluded on February 29.
In a statement, the authority provided the necessary Customs facilities to traders and exhibitors in order to guarantee the speedy entry of exhibits in line with Customs procedures and regulations.
The statement also noted that the total value of items exhibited at DJWE 2020 amounted to around QR6.95bn.
Ahmed Yousef al-Khanji, director of the Air Cargo and Private Airports Customs Department and head of the Customs work team for the 17th DJWE, said the GAC had formed a team to facilitate the entry of exhibits for the event. The process started from the arrival of such goods at the airport and passage through the temporary clearance system, right up to the re-export process, he explained.
He said Customs duties are collected only on the sold pieces at the conclusion of the event. Customs dues were calculated based on the sales invoice on a daily basis.
To further ease the relevant procedures, the GAC obtained a letter of guarantee accompanied by a cheque from the companies concerned, addressed to the authority as guarantee for the payment of Customs dues.
