The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) announced on Monday that following further screening, four additional cases of Coronavirus (Covid-19) have been recorded in Qatar.

Among the four new cases are two Qatari citizens and two female domestic workers who were traveling with them. The four new cases also belong to the group of people who were evacuated from Iran on a government-chartered plane on February 27, and have been under full quarantine upon their arrival. The number of confirmed cases of Covid-19 infection in the country has now risen to seven.

The patients have been transferred to the Communicable Disease Centre for treatment under full quarantine and they are in a stable condition, the MoPH statement said.

Reiterating that the patients have not had any engagement with the general public, the ministry stressed that the risk of infection to the public remains low.

The ministry noted the stable condition of the first three cases that were diagnosed and announced recently, adding that they are undergoing treatment at the Communicable Disease Center. It pointed out that it continues to monitor quarantined individuals for symptoms.

The MoPH has also taken all precautionary measures to curb the spread of the coronavirus by subjecting all travellers coming from countries where the virus is reported to quarantine upon arrival in the country, the statement said adding that the ministry continues to monitor quarantined individuals for symptoms.

Also, the MoPH has set up a dedicated call centre to answer all questions and inquiries related to the novel coronavirus. The hotline number is 16000 (toll-free) and healthcare professionals as well as the general public can make use of the facility in case of any queries related to Covid-19. Available in Arabic and English, the call centre works round the clock, 24x7.

According to a senior health official, people coming from China, Iran, Italy, South Korea and Egypt are being quarantined to prevent the spread of the virus in Qatar.

QNA adds from Muscat: More than 2,300 people are currently being quarantined in Oman to stop the potential spread of the novel coronavirus, Oman's Minister of Health Dr. Ahmed bin Mohamed al-Saeedi said on Monday.
