Sohail Tanvir, Rilee Rossouw and Khushdil Shah powered Multan Sultans to a comprehensive six-wicket win over Peshawar Zalmi.
With 124 to win, Multan went through early hiccups but the duo of Rossouw and Shah tore apart Peshawar’s bowling to chase down the total in 14.5 overs.
Multan’s run-chase started with quick wickets of James Vince and Moeen Ali. First change bowler Wahab Riaz then struck twice to get rid of skipper Shan Masood and Zeeshan Ashraf.
Ashraf was caught superbly by Tom Banton at point, restricting Sultans to four for 47. However, the pair of Rilee Rossouw and Khushdil Shah started off well, picking up gaps at regular intervals. The pair took young Aamir Khan to cleaners in the 14th over – scoring 22 runs to reduce the equation to 11 off 36 balls. Rossouw struck the winning runs off Wahab Riaz’s bowling, hunting down the total with 31 balls to spare.
Earlier, Tom Banton, Kamran Akmal, Shoaib Malik and Liam Livingstone were nipped out in the powerplay overs. Malik and Livingstone were dismissed by Ilyas in one over – both batters falling in the corridor of uncertainty.
Haider Ali impressed with a quickfire 47 off 27 balls and was ultimately caught at deep mid-wicket off his productive pull shot. Liam Dawson was the second highest run-getter in the line-up with 22 off 23 balls.
Darren Sammy was squeezed by the Multan spinners and he was forced to take on Mohamed Irfan’s short-of-a-length ball, which was top-edged.
Sohail Tanvir, player of the match, took four for 13 in his 3.3 overs.
