The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has started implementing the first package of Ras Bu Abboud Beach Development project as part of the works of the Supervisory Committee of Beautification of Roads and Public Places in Qatar. The beach will be developed as a leisure and tourist destination.

Besides, the road leading to the beach and Ras Bu Abboud stadium will be also developed as part of the project. The first phase of the project is scheduled to be completed in the second quarter of 2020.

Engineer Jazmine al-Sheikh, design manager of the project, said as the beach is located in a promient area, it has the potential to be one of the main tourist attractions in Qatar.

“The project will be implemented on an area of 260,000 sq m along 2.2 km. It will be a recreational destination for practising beach activities such as swimming and relaxing. It includes an area designated for sport activities. The project includes the construction of a pedestrian and a 2.2 km-long cycling path. Also the project includes 11,500 sq m of landscaping and planting of about 500 trees," she said.

Amenities available at the site include restaurants, cafes and toilets.

In order to enhance safety at night, a distinctive and high-tech lighting network will be also implemented. This includes surveillance cameras and Wi-Fi devices.

The parking space will have dedicated lots for people with special needs.

The Supervisory Committee implements five main tasks; building central public parks, providing paths for pedestrians and cycles, developing of Doha Corniche, developing the central Doha region in addition to planting trees and increasing green areas.
