The Public Works Authority (Ashghal), represented by the Engineering Services Department in co-operation with the Ministries of Finance, Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs, has initiated new procedures to ensure that salaries reach workers who participate in the implementation of the Authority's projects.
The procedures for preserving labour rights taken by Ashghal included a condition to add in tender documents, a statement from the Ministry of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs to complete the payment of workers' dues in the company, and that it is one of the basic criteria for accepting the bidder technically.
It also stipulated the provision of project data in the Authority to the Ministry of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs in order for the ministry to inspect the progress of procedures for the payment of workers’ wages.
Companies are also obligated to issue a certificate from Qatar Credit Bureau on the financial position of the company, explaining the extent of its commitment with banks and customers.
These measures came in light of the authority's keenness to preserve the rights of workers employed in Ashghal’s projects, and the Authority, in co-ordination with the Ministry of Development and related parties, will undertake to follow up the implementation of these tasks in the future to ensure their application and effectiveness.
