Qatar Electricity & Water Company (QEWC) and the American General Electric Company (GE) have signed an agreement to develop local talent in the power sector, including Qatari nationals and residents.
Under this agreement, (GE) will provide exclusive hands-on technical and leadership training's over a period of five years to young and experienced professionals at QEWC and its affiliates.
Participants will have the opportunity to be trained in Qatar, the GE Kuwait Technology Center (GEKTC), as well as GE's facilities and global learning centres in the United States.
The agreement was signed by the Director & General Manager of QEWC Fahad Hamad al-Mohannadi, and Scott Strazik, CEO of GE Gas Power, in the presence of Joseph Anis, President & CEO of GE Gas Power Middle East, North Africa & South Asia and other senior leaders from both organisations.
Al-Mohannadi stated: "As Qatar focuses on strengthening its power infrastructure, it is important to build up the leadership capabilities and technical knowledge of our people around state-of-the-art solutions.
At QEWC, we continuously invest in the professional development of our staff, enabling them to excel in their careers, while adding value to the country's energy sector.
"GE is a globally recognised industrial leader in the power generation sector and this new agreement between our organisations will help our employees gain advanced skills to drive the transformation of Qatar's power industry," he added.
For his part, Joseph Anis said: "We understand the aspirations of our customers and partners to further enhance the core competencies of their people and are committed to collaborating with them to achieve this goal."
"The programmes under this agreement will empower talented Qatar-based professionals to help improve the productivity and efficiency of the country's power sector, thus furthering sustainability efforts in line with National Vision 2030," Anis said.
The training programme will cover the operations and maintenance of GE's advanced power generation equipment including gas turbines, steam turbines, generators, heat recovery steam generators, boilers and controls, as well as power plant planning, installation, upgrades and optimisation.
The agreement also includes customised programmes revolving around activities at specific QEWC sites, more than 25 online courses that provide trainees the flexibility to learn at their own pace and core leadership development modules such as managing teams and organisational change, goal setting, conflict resolution, harnessing diversity and more.
