Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal will take oath as Delhi chief minister for a third term on February 16 at Ramlila Maidan and the party has invited everyone in Delhi for the event.
Senior AAP leader Manish Sisodia said the newly-elected legislators have unanimously elected Kejriwal as leader of the legislature party.
“Everyone in Delhi is invited to come and bless Kejriwal their son, their brother,” said Sisodia.
He said Kejriwal will take oath along with his team of ministers. Kejriwal also met the party MLAs today. The legislators then elected him as the leader of the legislature party. After this, he will stake claim to form the government.”
“This is a historic mandate for the AAP and for the first time in India people voted for the work. People have rejected the politics of hatred. People have shown that the citizens of Delhi are pro-development and pro-work. The people of Delhi believe that the work of the government is to make Delhi a better place. Today, the people of Delhi have proved that the development model of Kejriwal is something which will allow the country and the economy to progress.”
He said the meaning of ‘Deshbhakti’ or patriotism is now “giving good education, health infrastructure, making a better city and ensuring the safety of women. Lastly, in this election, the people of Delhi have said that Kejriwal is their son and brother and they want him as the chief minister.”
An AAP leader said Kejriwal will retain all the cabinet ministers who were part of his last government.
“Kejriwal will retain the cabinet ministers - Manish Sisodia, Satyendar Jain, Kailash Gahlot, Gopal Rai, Rajendra Pal Gautam and Imran Hussain,” the leader said.
The confirmation came amid speculation that the third government of Kejriwal may have new names in the cabinet.
“Kejriwal believes that the people have liked the government and its work. So, we have decided that the cabinet ministers will be retained,” the leader added.
The AAP on Tuesday won 62 of 70 seats in Delhi.
Meanwhile, Naresh Yadav, a newly-elected legislator, was attacked by unidentified men on Tuesday night.
The MLA was returning from a temple with his well-wishers at the time of the incident.
One of his supporters died in the attack, while Yadav escaped unhurt.
Police yesterday said the conspiracy to eliminate Yadav, who was declared winner from Delhi’s Mehrauli assembly seat, was hatched about 20 days ago. But, because of the election campaign, Yadav was always surrounded by his supporters, and the police were also maintaining a tighter vigil, and the plan was thwarted.
“From the facts that have emerged so far, it does not seem to be the result of a gang war. It seems to be a fallout of an old enmity. However, it is not correct to say anything concrete until the investigation is complete and all the accused/conspirators are arrested,” a police officer said.
