The Chinese ambassador in Qatar, Zhou Jian, has expressed his strong appreciation for the recent telephonic call of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani to Chinese President Xi Jinping to express his condolences and sympathy for the victims of the outbreak of new coronavirus.
He stressed that the conversation between the two leaders at such a critical time for China reflects the true friendship between the two nations and "the Chinese people are deeply moved by this as it shows the true friendship that has stood the test in difficult times."
Ambassador Zhou further thanked His Highness the Amir and the Qatari government and people for their continued support to China and the readiness of the country "to provide assistance at any time in response to the needs of the Chinese side."
The ambassador pointed out that "President Xi expressed hope that countries will keep abreast of and follow the guidelines of the World Health Organisation (WHO) on travel and health. China is willing to maintain close co-ordination with Qatar, provide updates on the latest situation of the epidemic in a timely manner, and ensure the life and health of the Qatari nationals in China and that of the people of both countries in a concrete manner."
Ambassador Zhou further affirmed that China is "making extraordinary efforts to contain the spread of the virus and limit its effects and treat the already infected persons, hoping that soon positive results would be seen."
