A park adjacent to the upcoming Al Bayt Stadium, Al Khor is set to be opened to the public Tuesday, coinciding with National Sport Day.
Accordingly, the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC) and Aspire Zone Foundation (AZF) have called on the public to visit the park Tuesday to enjoy the festivities and activities organised there in collaboration with a number of government entities and companies.
The project, which has a total area of around 1,331,900sqm, includes a park, a water body, pedestrian corridors, running and cycling tracks and a car parking area, among other facilities. The park itself occupies a space of 944,000sqm and has 369,585sqm of green areas, including playgrounds, which account for 27.7% of the entire area of the project.
The beautifully landscaped park includes a 4,415m-long running track and a 3,444m-long cycling track in addition to some 56,000sqm of pedestrian corridors. The parking area can accommodate of up to 6,000 vehicles and 300 buses. There is also a 1.7km-long track for camels and horses besides a water body -- an artificial lake -- of around 19,907sqm. It also includes a motorable road.
The park has 1,050 trees and six restaurants in addition to 10 locations for mobile cafes and fast food joints. It has 54 light columns powered by solar energy and an adequate number of kids' play areas and games besides other facilities such as toilets and playgrounds.
Being delivered by AZF, the 60,000-capacity Al Bayt Stadium takes its name from 'bayt al sha'ar' – tents historically used by nomadic peoples in Qatar and the Gulf region.
A giant tent structure will cover this whole stadium in the northern city of Al Khor. The stadium will host matches right through to the FIFA World Cup 2022 semi-finals, according to information available on the SC website.
