ART29 is an art gallery that has fast established its name for promoting and supporting the young and talented artists in Qatar. Situated at the 29th floor of W Doha hotel, the gallery regularly hosts exhibitions and art related activities featuring works of talented young artists.
The recent exhibition called ‘The Unreachable Mirage’ attracted art lovers and members of the art community in Doha in large numbers. The exhibition displayed 20 creative pieces of Masoud Rashid al-Bulushi, Qatar’s award-winning artist. The exhibition, featuring fascinating pieces of abstract art, will continue for a month till March 8. It is open for public every day from 10am to 10pm.
The latest addition to ART29 takes art lovers on a journey of discovery – ‘Unreachable Mirage’ – features a selection of paintings that weave a blend of traditions in a contemporary manner. The paintings present intricate techniques reflecting an abstract interpretation of reality.
The visitors to ART29 are able to experience Masoud’s journey and unfold the many stories behind his dazzling works of art.
Commenting on his exhibition, Masoud al-bulushi said: “Unreachable Mirage truly reflects the concept of art as an international language, bringing people together and overcoming differences. Exhibiting at ART29 is not just about showcasing my work but has also enabled me to share my thoughts, passions and perceptions of the world. I am really looking forward to taking art lovers through a journey that will bring together the community for the sake of art.”
Responding to different questions from Community, Masoud said: “The idea of this exhibition is both old and new at the same time. I had the idea in my mind a long time ago, but it was last year that I decided to express it through these paintings. This collection expresses ideas that were generated from experiences I went through in life.
“I have been seeking the actual meaning of life for 20 years and still didn’t reach my goal. So, this journey is like a mirage. In my paintings, I used char, pastel and oil colours and also mix media techniques.”
He added: “My paintings show the regular life interactions between people and their different personalities – the mysterious and the clear. Some paintings depict the dialogue between two people, to the point that makes you wonder what they are talking about, and you feel as if you are part of that conversation. Each painting has a story. It expresses something specific to me. I like to integrate realistic and abstract art in my work. This collection was a personal experience that I lived in my studio. Each painting speaks for itself, but it is also a creation of the struggles and feelings living inside me.

Masoud, a member of the Qatar Fine Arts Association and the Souq Waqif Art Center, has showcased his work in solo exhibitions including ‘Behind the Dark’ at Souq Waqif in 2011 and ‘Al That’ at Katara in 2013. He is no stranger to the art scene as his art has been displayed both locally and internationally with a string of awards for his exceptional work including the grand prize at the Youth Exhibition by Qatar Fine Arts Association in 2003 and the Second International Mini Art Exhibition for visual arts by the Ministry of Culture and Sports in Qatar during 2015. Masoud’s work knows no boundaries. Showcasing in Paris, London, Morocco and Cuba, his work is loved by many across the world as he cemented his name as a dynamic artist across waters.
Art 29 is an exciting platform that showcases works of up and coming local, regional and international artists in an aim to nurture creativity & inspiration.
