LuLu Hypermarket Qatar, the leading hypermarket chain in the region, has won the corporate social responsibility award (CSR) in the category: ‘The Best Company in the Private Sector’ at the seventh CSR awards this year.
Mohamed Althaf, director of LuLu Hypermarket Qatar, received the award in the presence of HE Yousef bin Mohamed al- Othman Fakhro, Minister of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs; Sheikh Thani bin Ali al-Thani, chairman of the Social Responsibility Committee; and the Guest of Honour Dr Talal Abu Ghazaleh, Dean of Arab Accountants.
Recognising CSR as one of its key missions, LuLu Hypermarket Qatar has partnered with the social responsibility committee for the CSR awards that was organised on the theme: “Social Responsibility between Ethical Commitment and Profitability”.
LuLu’s sustained efforts towards CSR started since its inception, and has seen many activities, including the Introduction of ‘price freeze policy’; partnership with Education Above All Foundation (Qatar Foundation) for the noble cause of charity; introduction of biodegradable shopping bags; introduction of bags for life (reusable shopping bags); introduction of paper bags; and introduction of ‘borrow a bag’ system.
Most recently, LuLu Hypermarket Qatar had won the ‘Sustainability Award 2019’ from the Gulf Organisation for Research and Development, in appreciation of its long-standing and continued efforts towards sustainability.
With the introduction of shopping bags made of sustainably sourced paper and home compostable bags made from potato starch, LuLu chain have made advancement in to the next phase of sustainability.
LuLu has also been practising the designing of energy efficient buildings, shifting to LEDs from conventional lights and energy efficient refrigeration units and bakery ovens to reduce energy consumption and pollution, as part of its ongoing efforts towards sustainability.
With 12 stores scattered over various strategic locations in Qatar, LuLu Hypermarket is identified as one of the major market players in the retail arena.
