Northerly fresh to strong winds are expected to affect the country from Sunday (February 9), accompanied by dusty conditions at times and a cold spell, the Qatar Met department has said.

Before that, a noticeable increase in temperature is expected in the country on Saturday (February 8), according to the weather office.

In a report on Wednesday, the Met department explained that southerly winds would affect the country on Saturday, causing a noticeable rise in temperature with the maximum exceeding 30C in some areas.

Then, northwesterly fresh to strong winds are expected to start affecting the country again from Sunday, reaching their peak between Monday and Wednesday (February 10-12), along with a deepening high-pressure system over the region, the report states.

The wind speed is expected to range between 15 knots and 25 knots inshore, going up to 35 knots and causing dusty conditions at times along with poor visibility of below 2km in some areas.

Wind gusts offshore are expected to go beyond 40 knots, resulting in high waves exceeding 10ft.

The northerly winds will be accompanied by a cold spell with the maximum temperature ranging from 14C to 18C and the minimum from 9C to 14C. Also, the temperature may drop below 9C in the southern parts of the country, the report adds.

The Met department has urged people to be cautious, avoid all marine activities and follow the latest updates through its official social media accounts.

Meanwhile, today's forecast shows low visibility is expected in some places in the early hours of the day due to misty to foggy conditions. This will be followed by moderate temperature during the day and scattered clouds, while it will be cold by night.

Misty conditions are likely at times in offshore areas on Thursday along with scattered clouds.

The minimum temperature on Thursday is expected to be 14C in Dukhan and Abu Samra, 15C in Wakrah, Mesaieed and Ruwais, 16C in Al Khor and 17C in Doha. The maximum, on the other hand, will range from 21C in Ruwais and Dukhan to 26C in Abu Samra, with Doha expected to see a high of 25C.

Wednesday, a minimum temperature of 9C was recorded in Abu Samra and Turayna, while in Doha it was 15C. The maximum ranged from 19C to 25C, with Doha seeing a high of 23C.
