Statistical data issued by the Planning and Statistics Authority showed this month a drop in traffic accident deaths at an annual rate of 14.3% (compared to December 2018), and a decrease in total traffic violations at an annual rate of 7.2%.

This comes in the Planning and Statistics Authority (Qatar; Monthly Statistics) bulletin; a series of statistical newsletters released on a monthly basis, which highlighted the important statistical changes that occurred in the country during December 2019 in addition to extracts from the results of the 2015 Census.

Not taking into account accidents without injuries, a total of 638 traffic cases were recorded during December 2019, showing a monthly increase of 4.9%. Light injuries accounted for the vast majority of traffic accident cases during the same month, with 86%, followed by severe injuries (11%). However, 16 deaths were recorded, equivalent to only 3% of total traffic accidents cases.

A total of 6,017 new vehicles were registered during December 2019. The figure showed a monthly increase of 5.7% and an annual increase of 14.3%. The most prominent change in this category is the increase in total new drivers' licences and total new vehicles registered at an annual rate of 10.8% and 14.3%, respectively.

The demographic statistics revealed that the total population of Qatar has increased from 2.67mn during December 2018 to 2.69mn at end of December 2019.
