The ninth edition of Halal Qatar Festival was inaugurated on Sunday afternoon on the western side of Katara-the Cultural Village Foundation by general manager Dr Khalid bin Ibrahim al-Sulaiti.

The festival has become a landmark event for livestock and herd raisers and those interested in the field within Qatar and the GCC region, he observed on the occasion.

"Every year, the Halal Qatar Festival sees more developments and sophistication from both the technical and aesthetic perspectives to expand its activities and the related competitions, with new items added," he said. The Swedish ambassador to Qatar, Anders Bengtcen, attended the opening ceremony and was briefed by Dr al-Sulaiti on the various aspects of the event.

The festival will remain open for the public daily until February 10. Pictured are snapshots from the first day of the festival.
