Ten contracts with a total value of around QR4bn were signed for Infrastructure Development Projects of Citizens’ Sub-Divisions by the Public Works Authority (Ashghal) on Tuesday.

The proposed project will serve more than 8,400 land plots across 10 areas in the north, south and west of the country. All the contracts have been given to Qatari companies.

The signing ceremony was held in the presence of Ashghal president Dr Saad bin Ahmad al-Muhannadi, Projects Affairs director engineer Yousef Abdulrahman al-Emadi, Roads Projects Department manager engineer Saoud Ali al-Tamimi, Central Municipal Council (CMC) vice president Mohamed bin Hamad al-Attan, other officials from Ashghal, CMC members and representatives of the contracting companies concerned.

The Ashghal president signed the new contracts with the representatives of the awarded companies. The areas concerned include Al Ebb, Leabaib, Jeryan Nejaima, Al Duhail South, Umm Lekhba, Al Mearad and Al Meshaf South.

Upon completion, the projects will provide advanced infrastructure including 223km of roads, 325km of pedestrian and bicycle paths, more than 20,000 parking lots, about 192km of sewage networks, 305km of stormwater and groundwater drainage networks and 142km of treated sewage effluent (TSE) networks.

Al-Muhannadi said Ashghal gives top priority to infrastructure projects based on the directives of HE the Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani.

“The signing is considered as the first step in Ashghal's plan for 2020 to develop the citizens’ sub-divisions throughout the country. More projects will be awarded to other areas,” he said.

Sheikh Ali bin Hamad al-Thani, chairman of QBS Construction, said Ashghal always encourages Qatari companies. “Qatari companies are aware of the condition of the areas. So, they are able to implement projects better,” he said. QBS Construction signed two contracts during the function.

Al-Attan thanked HE the Prime Minister for the great attention towards development projects in the country. "There is no doubt that new projects to develop the infrastructure are very important to the citizens. They provide the citizens with an integrated infrastructure of rainwater and sewage drainage networks as well as advanced roads and other services,” he said.

Al Emadi described the signing as a continuation of the plan developed by Ashghal to provide advanced infrastructure for citizens’ sub-divisions in different areas.
