UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has appointed HE Dr Ahmed bin Mohamed al-Muraikhi of Qatar (pictured) as a Special Adviser.

The main responsibilities of the adviser are to advise the Secretary-General on requests for dialogue and relations with regional organisations and member states, and to call for co-operation with the UN between partners, especially South-South global co-operation and the private sector, as well as facilitating high-level meetings for the Secretary-General and other senior UN leaders, the Office of the Special Adviser to the Secretary-General of the UN said in a statement on Monday.

Also, the adviser undertakes work on special projects mandated by the Secretary-General, providing advice on co-operation and partnerships areas as well as geopolitical dynamics, methods and mechanisms for correcting misconceptions about the UN system and its work, as well as undertaking other related activities.

Al-Muraikhi held the position of Humanitarian Envoy for the UN between December 2016 and December 2019.

He has a proven record in diplomatic and humanitarian fields, as he held many positions in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other institutions within Qatar, before moving to work with the UN.
