Veteran actress Shabana Azmi was injured in a car accident near Khalapur toll-plaza on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, police said yesterday.
She was rushed to the Mahatma Gandhi Mission Medical College & Hospital (MGM-MCH) at Kamothe in Navi Mumbai and later shifted to the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital (KDAH) in Andheri, Mumbai, a hospital official said.
“We have taken X-rays, a CT scan and ultrasound and conducted other tests on her. She has suffered injuries to her head, neck and cervical spine, face and right eye. She was conscious and speaking and her vital parameters are normal. There are no abdominal injuries,” MGM-MCH medical superintendent Dr K R Salgotra told IANS.
He said the National Award winner was initially under treatment at the hospital but after a few hours she was shifted to the KDAH on the request of the family.
According to the police, her car, in which her husband and National Award winning poet-lyricist Javed Akhtar was also travelling, rammed into a truck from behind around 4.15pm.
It was not clear if Akhtar, 75, who appeared badly shaken, was also injured. But another unidentified woman was reportedly seriously injured.
Police said the car was badly damaged.
