Qatar Museums (QM) is participating in the 30th Doha International Book Fair (DIBF) being held at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Centre (DECC) until January 18 under the patronage of its chairperson, HE Sheikha al-Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani.

QM’s participation at DIBF is part of its commitment to play an active role in the development of the country’s cultural education sector. Its publications allow members of the community to explore QM’s incredible collection, discover its exhibitions, and engage with aspects of Qatar’s culture.

Through showcasing its publications, hosting discussions and community workshops inspired by its programmes, QM aims to highlight the importance of arts and museums in society.

Publications recently released Mounira Al Solh: I Strongly Believe in Our Right to be Frivolous, a unique book on how migration and displacement, conflict, and resistance, continue to shape our world today; Russian Avant Garde: Pioneers and Direct Descendants, a lavishly illustrated catalogue that studies revolutionary artistic movements of the 1910s–1920s; and Kazimir Malevich: Genius of the Russian Avant Garde, a catalogue which presents the work of one of the most significant artists of the 20th century.

Commenting on the organisation’s participation, Randa Takieddine, director of QM Publishing, stated: “Every year, we aim to present publications that document and promote the work that Qatar Museums is doing to build a strong cultural sector in the country.

“These publications are meant to educate, inspire, and encourage conversations about key topics related to art, culture, and heritage. We look forward to welcoming everyone to Qatar Museums’ booth.”

QM’s programme of events featured a presentation on the recent publication Syria Matters and a panel discussion on the role of museums in promoting culture and peace. A wide range of activities for children are also available at the QM booth, including workshops on archaeology, the importance of sport, storytelling through objects, and how to make a historical desert rose.
