Injaaz Stud’s Izzthatright made it two wins in a row when the Jassim Mohamed Ghazali-schooled gelding bagged the Muaither Cup at Al Rayyan Park yesterday, even as Alban de Mieulle saddled four winners on the day, including three in Umm Qarn colours.
Also, Julian Smart and the silks of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Khalifa al-Thani entered the winner’s circle twice yesterday.
Izzthatright had won the five-furlong sprint feature two years ago before losing out narrowly to another Ghazali ward, Anima Rock, last year. Yesterday, under Theo Bachelot, who rode the winner last year, the eight-year-old gelding made his way back into winner’s circle for the race for Thoroughbreds, leading a one-two for the champion trainer. Harry Bentley rode Take A Nap to second place.
In the penultimate race of the day, Methgal opened his account at Al Rayyan Park in only his second outing, with Tomas Lukasek guiding the Smart ward to a Purebred Arabian Handicap victory yesterday. Earlier, Ennab topped a claiming race, also under Lukasek.
Al Rabban Racing’s RS Rasheeda was the first winner on the day for De Mieulle and the four-year-old filly was in fantastic form in local Arabian maiden, winning the 1850m race by an eye-popping 12 lengths on her third outing under Ronan Thomas.
De Mieulle’s charges won two more maidens — Umm Qarn’s Al Kharu and Djamil. Djamil was Thomas’ second winner on the day, while another Umm Qarn colt, Bin General, was the jockey’s third. Bin General registered his third career victory when he won a 2200m graduation race for Purebred Arabians.
Ghazali’s son, Mohamed, saddled a winner in the opening race of the day as Bentley guided Angelic Queen to her maiden victory.
Brazilian jockey Leo Salles made a winning debut in Qatar after riding Mohamed Hamad al-Attiyah-schooled Mizoun to maiden victory.
