His Highness the Deputy Amir Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad al-Thani offered condolences to Sultan Haitham bin Tariq bin Taimur of Oman on the death of Sultan Qaboos bin Said bin Taimur at Al Alam Palace in Muscat on Tuesday.

The Deputy Amir also offered condolences to members of the royal family, senior officials and dignitaries, praying to the Almighty Allah to have mercy on the soul of Sultan Qaboos and to rest it in paradise, and to grant patience and solace to his family.

HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani also offered condolences to Sultan Haitham and to the members of the royal family.

Upon his arrival at the Private Sultani Airport in Muscat His Highness the Deputy Amir was welcomed by Sayyid Fatik bin Fahar al-Said, Ambassador of Qatar to Oman Sheikh Jassim bin Abdulrahman al-Thani and the Qatari embassy staff.

The Deputy Amir was accompanied by HE Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser and a number of ministers.

Upon departure, His Highness the Deputy Amir and the accompanying delegation were seen off at the Private Sultani Airport by ambassador Sheikh Jassim bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani and members of the Qatari Embassy.

Later in the day, Sultan Haitham met with HE the Speaker of the Shura Council Ahmed bin Abdullah bin Zaid al-Mahmoud and the delegation accompanying him at the Al Alam Palace.

HE the Speaker offered his condolences to the Sultan on the death of Sultan Qaboos.

Oman's Sultan Qaboos bin Said, one of the Middle East's longest-serving rulers who maintained the country's neutrality in a turbulent region, died on January 10.
